Should sterilization doctors be forced to pay the child support for unwanted children from their sterilizations?
Personally, I am struck by just how cavalier vasectomy doctors are in regards to the risk of their vasectomies failing. After all, their own money isn't on the line, so they can comfortably ignore patient requests for more effective sterilization.
Honestly, doctors who perform sterilizations--for both males and females--should make it clear that the standard sterilization procedures (vasectomy and tubal ligation) are less effective than some other sterilization procedures (bilateral salpingectomy, hysterectomy, bilateral epididymectomy, a total vas deferens removal on both sides) and should also offer to redirect their patients to doctors who are willing to perform these more effective sterilizations if they are unwilling to personally perform these more effective sterilizations. Thankfully the situation in regards to this appears to be getting very good for women (as evidenced by the large number of women who are able to get bilateral salpingectomies even if they're childfree--as evidenced by a lot of posts on Reddit and possibly elsewhere as well), but the situation in regards to this still appears to be extremely dismal for men.
It really sucks.
If vasectomy doctors' own money was actually on the line, I have no doubt that we'd be hearing much more about doctors' offers to perform a total removal of the entire reproductive tubing (epididymis and vas deferens) on both sides for men!
