they're going to want me in the office every day post-covid
I've been doing that for almost six months. :)

^^While Ontario is currently in the worst place it's ever been with regard to the pandemic (super high case numbers, lots of people in hospital - our hospital system is now on the brink of collapse), that's not what I was referring to.

My current job is a half-hour bike commute from my house. This is one of the reasons I've stayed there for so long - while trying to not get killed by idiot drivers is stressful, I love getting the fresh air, the exercise, and not having to drive a car to work.

If I take the new job, I would have to travel into the city by train every day, and it will easily double (or more) my commute time. In the past, I've avoided applying for jobs at this location for this reason. I was hoping that with covid, they would see that it's not necessary to have everyone in the office every day, and hoping that I would be able to work from home 1-2 days per week, which would make the commute much more bearable.

At the first interview, they insisted that this was the type of job that would require me to be on-site every day - this is one of the main drawbacks of the position for me. But like I said, I feel like if they do offer it to me, I have to take it since the opportunities to move up at my current location are so limited (read: non-existent).

In any case, we'll see how the second interview goes. I'm surprised I'm not more excited about this opportunity, but I'm not sure how much of that is just my usual resistance to change (I hate change and I'm not the best at adapting to it).

Second interview down - I think it went pretty well.

Nothing to do now but wait and see.

I'm hopeful that this will be my final update on this super-long thread about my work situation for the past year.

I got the job! I accepted the offer just this morning. It's the same employer, but in a different location. Better pay and a bit of a step up from where I am now. The only downside I can see as of right now is that it is a much longer commute, but beggars can't be choosers.

I'm equal parts excited and terrified. This is my first time changing departments in almost 14 years. I sometimes have trouble adapting to change, but at the same time, I am excited for a new beginning and the opportunity for a fresh start.

Fingers crossed it goes well!

Ah, congratulations! I hope it's everything you're hoping for!

It's sad about the commute, as I know you love your bike, but podcasts and audiobooks make commuting so much more bearable.

Congrats Herby! I love a fresh start, a chance to shed a skin and try something new.

Shame about the commute, but it's going to be great. Very best wishes
