I *knew* I shouldn't have believed the oatmeal packer's instructions regarding how much water to add. Now I have soup :(

Tonight we are having beef brisket, slow-roasted in the oven. With baked sweet potato (for me) and roast potatoes (for him) and yorkshire puddings. The leftover beef is wonderful reheated, and great for sandwiches with the fresh bread I will make tomorrow.

^^^ Yeah, it's delicious! I remember Mom's home-cooked lye...it was the lye-ist!

Seriously, it's delicious stuff. Tastes like a really potent corn tortilla. Lutefisk is also another foodstuff that gets the lye treatment, I think.

I thought Lutefisk was fermented in urine? I'll have to look that up now.....

ETA: Yeah, you're right, soaked in lye. I think I was getting it mixed up with Surströmming, that's the really bad one that marinades in it's own filth.

We had fondue last night, and tonight, I made pork schnitzel with roasted cabbage and potatoes, and a mustard-sage pan sauce.

We had pork tenderloin sandwiches made with some of the leftover schnitzel, then good old 1970's-style Mrs. Paul's frozen fish fillet sandwiches (with cheese, so it was like a McD's knockoff), and last night, pigs in a blanket and little individual potato au gratin stacks, made in a muffin tin.

We do a lot of appetizers for supper this time of year. I also made a veggie dip platter with broccoli, tomatoes, peppers, cauliflower, and pretzels, done up to look like a Christmas tree.

Spanish tortilla/omelette, made with peppers, onions, and some of the leftover potatoes from yesterday. Greens tossed in a mustard vinaigrette and buttered bread on the side.
