First child of two, and I too treasure my 'alone' time. Married and childfree, it's essential to my existence.

I am glad that my husband and I are on the same page with this. Even though we are living in a nicer place now and have more space, we prefer not to have overnight guests. The house isn't really set up for it anyways. One spare bedroom is for the cat stuff and the other is set up as an office. They'd have to sleep on a futon in the living room. Plus, one of our dogs really doesn't like people she doesn't know in the house.

He doesn't even feel comfortable staying at someone else's house. We once stayed with a close friend of mine in Bogotá. The first night he said we should have stayed in a hotel. Her parents were staying there that night so it was a bit overcrowded. He did get used to it a bit more at least once her parents left and we had a bedroom to ourselves.

I have a cousin that seems to think she and her boyfriend are going to come stay with us. If she actually tries to act on it, I will lay down the law. There's a hostel in town or the fancy vineyard hotel in the other direction where they can stay if they want. That's it.
