So a few weeks back, one of my workmates neighbours found two small kittens stumbling around on her lawn. After some poking around, she unearthed a super-skinny momma cat and another four little tykes from under her deck. Being a cat person, she took them in, and looked after them until the kittens were weaned.
My workmate showed me pics of momma cat, and I was instantly smitten, as she looked just like the Burmese that my grandmother had growing up. As the kittens got older and the neighbours started to find homes for them, I told my workmate that if they didn't find a home for momma, to let me know before they did anything. I lost the female of my brother and sister pair from kidney failure about 18 months ago, and my Sam is now 16 and getting older by the day. I figured I had space for a rescue.
So Aja the kitty came home last Wednesday. She is the tiniest, skinniest thing - she looks like a gremlin, with big ears, big eyes, and a long body that's about two inches wide. I need to remember to weigh her, but I'd bet she's no more than five pounds. But she's so affectionate, and so funny. She's as smart as a whip - she took about a minute to figure out the dog door - and she comes when you call her. She is a raving feral with food though - it's very obvious she's been a starving stray at some point, and she'll probably be a feral feeder for the rest of her life.
I'm happy I rescued her though, I always said, when I lost Pika and people asked me if I was getting another one, that the universe would hand me one when the time was right. And well ...
I'll post some pics when I get home tonight, apparently I can't from my phone.
