-There are PLENTY of kids who need safe, loving families. I cannot in good conscience condone the use of reproductive medical tech on this overcrowded world. Those who want to parent should adopt. When all the orphanages and foster homes are cleared out, that's a different ball game.
That's certainly a good point, though on the flip side, it is worth noting that if one is smart, one is much more likely to have smart children by personally reproducing than by adopting someone else's children. After all, one can only pass one's genes down in the first way. Plus, genetics appears to be much more important than environment for children's and people's development.
In other words: While adoption is certainly an extremely compassionate and humanitarian act, a smart person who adopts children shouldn't complain about his or her children underperforming afterwards. After all, these children didn't inherit this smart person's genes.
